2021 The Garden Competition returns!
Up Hatherley Parish Council
It was very sad not to have our Summer Gardens Competition last year, but inevitable given the restrictions posed by the pandemic. It's still a minefield trying to work out how to do things safely, but we're glad to say that we have thought of a way of trying to keep the tradition up for residents and local primary schools whilst working around the restrictions.
We are now pleased to announce two competitions. The first one is as follows:
Challenge 1 – The Tallest Sunflower
Using the seeds we have provided, we have asked the children to sow the seeds and look after the sunflowers, keeping them inside until the end of April and then well watered when they go outside.
Measuring Day is 5th July. Prizes for each school are gardening vouchers £25 for the tallest, £10 for 2nd and £5 for 3rd, with packets of seeds for runners up.
Challenge 2 – The Biggest Mass of Potatoes
Using the seed potatoes we have provided and a bucket/dustbin/cardboard box with holes for drainage in the bottom, we have asked classes to grow potatoes (in a sheltered position until the end of April) and then outdoors keeping them watered.
Weighing Day is 5th July. In each school the prize for the biggest mass of potatoes are gardening vouchers £25 for the biggest mass, £10 for 2nd and £5 for 3rd, with packets of seeds for runners up.
